| The other
album cover, "Broken/Fixed", also has Trent's unique
sense of aesthetics. He "fixed" the things which
were "broken". This two images are also seen on
the later album titled "The Downward Spiral." According
to these ideas, he is not always destructive. In fact, in
his songs, he always recognizes the importance of restoring
broken things. He believes that destroying things is a ritual
that leads to the power of restoration. In short, new ideas
or things are not going to be created without destroying old
and archaic ones.
Those two albums are considered Trent's
release of frustration and anger, but they also have much
deeper meanings. His deeper meaning is clearly shown in
the song titled "Wish." Yes, "Wish"
is the message he wanted to express in these albums!!
The music videos for these album songs are
full of destruction and Trent's burning frustraton. However,
sometimes negative and cruel images create totally opposite
ideas or feelings in people. I believe that Trent included
totally negative and destructive images in his videos in
order to make people have positive ideas or feelings. >>

Although the songs of these albums have
a harder edge than their first album, "Pretty Hate
Machine," the melodies from the first album can still
be found. Unlike previous albums, Trent keeps shouting in
all the songs. Somehow all his words remain inside of me.
The way he creates a rhythm is amazing. It can tell us his
favorite drum loops.
People often consider that "Happiness
in Slavery" represents the image of Nine Inch Nails.
Trent said that he was really in that kind of world at that
time. However, if we consider about what people are subordinate
to, the lines of the song could be very interesting because
it can be interpreted as an expression of love. Trent usually
expresses love in very unconventional ways. He writes songs
with a message of love, but it is often complicated to understand.
Love is one of the main issues in his songs. This may tell
us that he is searching for love in his life. Maybe. . .
I often think that Trent is lonely and thirsty for love.
